Day Positioning - Neurological

Developed for the control of a back extensor spasm.  The length of this unit supports into the nape of the neck, down the entire spinal column to the sacrum.  The shape of the unit moulds around the person’s form creating warmth and extremely firm back support, therefore coping with an extreme back thrust. The inclusion of the flap holds the unit in place due to the body weight of the client.
It has been found that for general requirements of side lying, the unit holds the patient very effectively, but also comfortably.
When placed in front of a patient this would cope with a flexor spasm.  It has also shown great benefits when side lying a patient to assist in drainage of a lung. This unit is showing its benefits and ability with neurological clients, as well as general spasticity.

Mini Eileen

Designed for positioning smaller / younger patients (under 4' 6") with exactly the same benefits and applications as for EILEEN.  However, if isolation only is required the MINI EILEEN is quite capable of holding an adult.  Side rotation has also been seen to be curbed, either with one unit in position or with two.  In certain cases a MINI EILEEN can be used to control side flexion whilst sitting or lying.

Micro Eileen

The same benefits and applications apply as for the EILEEN range, but designed for paediatrics.

Units used in combination, for example MINI EILEEN with a MICRO EILEEN are proving to be very effective in side lying requirements.  The combination controls both extensor spasms and flexor spasms, resistance to this combination by clients, especially children, is rarely seen.

In addition to the above units, the SAM range compliments an optimum stable side lying position supporting legs and feet.

The SAM unit was designed to give total leg support without rotation to include ankle and foot support. This unit also provides adequate adduction for the majority of clients when side lying.  Either with knee flexion, contractures or straight legs.  SAM was designed to compliment the EILEEN range when used for side lying. When in position the leg height is in alignment to the hip.  Suitable for a leg length of up to 36 inches.

Mini Sam

A smaller version of the SAM, with all of the benefits, suitable for a leg length of up to 30 inches.

Micro Sam

An even smaller version of the SAM, with all of the benefits, suitable for a leg length of up to 20 inches.

One of our leading units, used when the requirements for adduction and abduction are needed.  A corrective mid-line position is achieved and reduction in the lumbar curve has been observed.  When curbing wind-sweeping, the JEFFERY must be placed as near to the crutch as possible.

Because the entire leg is supported, including the feet, circulation is stimulated by the warmth and muscle spasm reduced.  Vulnerable areas such as heels are supported, therefore, reducing pressure areas.

Patients who are sleeping 8 hours on a JEFFERY have been found to have very relaxed legs and are therefore easier to dress.

When the patient is supine a MINI EILEEN can be placed down the side of the patient and it will help to stabilise side flexion.

Cuneiforms T-Roll is proving to be very popular and is found to be tolerated for much longer periods than firmer T-Rolls i.e. can be used for up to 8 hours at a time. The risk of pressure areas is also reduced and the unit prevents patients from needing complete bed care. Difficult clients accept the KATIE as opposed to more conventional types. Patients suffering with a variety of neurological conditions are being helped in the prevention of contractures and in the inhibition of spastic patterns. Suitable for adults over 5ft, giving abduction of 11.5 inches, with a base height of 11 inches.

Midi Katie

A smaller version of the KATIE unit, with all the same benefits.  Suitable for patients between 4ft –5ft, giving abduction of 7 inches, with a base height of 8.5 inches.

Mini Katie

An even smaller version of the KATIE unit, with all the same benefits.  Suitable for paediatrics up to approximately 4ft, giving abduction of 4.5 inches, with a base height of 6 inches.

Micro Katie

An even smaller version of the KATIE unit, with all the same benefits.  Suitable for paediatrics up to 3 years of age, giving abduction of 3.5 inches, with a base height of 4.5 inches.

This bi-lateral support gives firm support for the upper and lower arms.  Due to the support created good weight bearing is achieved, therefore supporting upper trunk and head in a mid line position.  Designed for neurological patients, especially stroke patients.

Celia 2

Designed to cope with a hemiplegic patient whilst sitting in an easy chair in a home situation, and can be either a left sided or right sided support.  The CELIA 2 has a small pad on the opposite side to the main unit to help give bilateral support and a flap to stabilise the unit when in position.

Initial reports on this unit have stated that there is less back pain and that facial muscles become more relaxed as the head maintains a midline position, in some patients salivating has ceased. Patients using this unit find the comfort and positioning more conducive for eating and digestion, therefore over a period of time the general well being of the patient is
noticed, especially as organs are back in their correct position. Patients and carers are reporting that the correct sitting position can be maintained over many hours and that the sufferer is reporting that they are comfortable with no slipping and feel their dignity has been restored. The unit is
simple to use, aesthetically pleasing, lightweight and extremely

Initially designed when coping with long term supine nursing of neurological patients. This simple unit effectively encourages shoulder flexion with arm extension.  However, we are finding an alternative use for clients with general postural problems such as shoulder flexion as well as lateral support, gives effective stability for those with MS, MND, general spasticity and, of course, stroke patients.

Mini Amy

A smaller version of the Amy with all the benefits, suitable for smaller patients up to 7 stone.
